GEDCOM File If you can export your Family Tree from the software you use into GEDCOM format, this is the most ideal method. Once exported, you can either email the file to Murray Short or upload it via this form. An upload option is currently being developed. Online Tree If you already have your Family Tree online, send an email to Murray Short notifying him of such a website. If data can be downloaded from your site to be uploaded to Short Family Tree, this may be viable. If not, Short Family Tree would be more than happy to link to your website. Formatting of information Short Family Tree has several conditions that you must agree to before the information will be made available to registered members. - Information on living individuals will be hidden from public view. We ask that you don't privatise the file or exlude information on living persons, our database policies are in place to show that there is a person there, but not to display any of their info until the record has been modified that they are now deceased. The best way to guarantee that the software on Short Family Tree can determine if the person is living or not, is testing if there is a date of death if the person was born within the last 100 years. If there is no date of death and the birth date is less than 100 years ago, the software will hide the person from public view as a precaution. The data base does recognise eg. "Abt. 1911" as a date and if there is no date of death, will not display the details.
- Information within the file MUST be formatted to the following scheme;
- Place names must be in the following format: <Place name or address>, <Suburb>, <State or Provice>, <COUNTRY>
- Please do not abbreviate any information, eg State of New South Wales.... not NSW
- Please have the country in UPPERCASE
- Please have a comma seperating each field
- Please do not have addional notes in the Place/Location fields, eg. "was married twice" should not appear in a field that is intended for a location name/place.
If you know there are lot of fields that need to be fixed in your files, please let us know, we'll be glad to help get the formatting to our requirements. Our database has some tools that can do it.
